TRAVEL SUBSIDIES/SCHOLARSHIP

Is transportation cost keeping you from attending LTS? Don't let it! KESHER, the URJ College Department, is offering a possible $200 subsidy for a limited number of students whose transportation to LTS costs over $300. To find out more information or to apply, please visit http://keshercollege.org/lts/travel/ .

Getting to the UT Hillel from the Austin Airport

So you’ve landed in Austin and it’s Friday afternoon just before LTS begins... Now what?

Someone from UT Kesher, in a bright orange-yellow tie-dye shirt, will be waiting for you at the bottom of the escalator in the baggage claim area. They will show you where to find the Airport Flyer (the Capital Metro bus from the airport to campus) or, if you prefer, how to get a taxi.

  1. Airport Flyer (The BUS, and our recommendation)

Austin has a great bus system, and you can take the Airport Flyer (shuttle from the airport to campus) for just $0.50 (fifty cents)

Ask the UT Kesher student to direct you to the bus stop for the Airport Flyer. The bus comes about every 40 minutes and makes several stops before reaching campus. The UT Kesher student will tell you which stop to get off at, but we’ll tell you here also so you can look it up if you want at www.capmetro.org.

Get off the bus at 21st and San Jacinto. The bus will usually announce stops, and you can also look at the map on the bus. Also, Austin-ites are really nice and if you ask someone which stop is 21st and San Jacinto, they’ll help you out and let you know when to get off.

Once you get off the bus, look for the UT Kesher student in the orange-yellow tie-dye. They will direct you to Texas Hillel, which is about a 10-minute walk straight up 21st street.

Walking up 21st, you’ll cross Guadalupe (which is the first and only light on your 10 minute walk) and just past Guadalupe is our Hillel. It’s a glass building, and you’ll see a big sign that says “Welcome Kesher LTS!” which means you’re in the right spot.

Welcome to the ATX! Also note: tie-dye is a popular color in Austin. Remember that you’re looking for a Jewish kid in orange (yellowish) tie-dye.

  1. Taxi

Walk out of the baggage claim area. Directly across the street (in between the building and the parking garage) is the taxi terminal. If you don’t feel comfortable navigating the bus system this is definitely the most direct way to go. However, a cab ride from the airport to campus could get up to between $20 and $25.

TRAVEL BY CAR

Interested in sharing a ride? Try renting a van with friends or other students from schools near you. Great places to drive from include Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas, parts of Arizona, and many other places!

TRAVEL BY BUS

Check out Greyhound and other sites!

TRAVEL BY FOOT

You’d be crazy to do this unless you live in Austin, which I hear is a pretty big city to try and walk. Maybe ask some strangers about how to get to 2105 San Antonio Street, Austin. *We do NOT recommend Hitch-Hiking.
