SAMPLE LETTER TO RABBIS ABOUT COMPILING A DATABASE
This letter is just a sample
form with ideas of what to include in your own.
They do not always have to be
this long! It is also nice if you can enclose a flyer from one of your
events.

Dear Rabbi,
As the leaders of KESHER, the Reform student group at the University , we are interested in compiling a list of names of all Reform Jewish students who attend [our university], in particular, the incoming freshman.
Our KESHER is an extremely successful group and we are happy to provide many activities to attract students and keep them involved in their Judaism while attending school. We hold weekly services at Hillel on Friday nights with an average attendance of XX, as well as weekly meetings for students to gather together and plan events, discuss issues, and have a good time. In addition, each month we have a social event. Our group numbers continue to grow and amaze us.
We know that many congregations have lists of where their college students attend school and we hope that you will share with us those who are at [the university.] As you hear of students planning to head off to school for the first time, please send us the names of those who are coming here.
As leaders, we represent only a small portion of this large group committed to the future. We come from all over the country, and include both undergraduate and graduate students. We are associated with the UAHC KESHER program and hold leadership positions in [the university] Hillel.
Please send lists (preferably prior to date) to:
You many also contact us via e-mail at:
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, or let us know if there is anything we can do to help a student you know — either current or prospective. We truly appreciate and thank you for your help in our project.
Sincerely,
