APPENDIX 8

SAMPLE LETTER TO RECRUIT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Again, these are just ideas of what to include in your own letter.

Dear Freshman,

So you are about to enounter one of the biggest changes in your life...COLLEGE! Your parents are worried about whether you'll study enough. Right now, grades are probably the last thing on your mind. "The University is huge, will I find friends?" you wonder. "What can I get involved with?" "Will I find that same connection, thath same niche, that I found in NFTY?"

Well, if you are asking yourself any of these questions, we think we might have the answer for you. It’s KESHER! No, we are not NFTY in college. We are a group of Jewish college students who have created a home for ourselves at [the university.]

We pray together on Shabbat, led by student service-leaders and guitar players, and are housed in the same building where the Orthodox and Conservative Jewish college students pray. We go rock-climbing, to comedy clubs, work at homeless shelters, go ice skating, bowling — anything it takes to relax our minds after the hectic school weeks. We often go out to dinner together, party together and maintain a community that’s comfortable, relaxed, and Jewish.

I’ll bet if you look at KESHER, you’ll find many of your old friends from the "days of NFTY past," who are anxious to see you again, and want to help make [the university] the college experience you’re looking for. If you don’t know anyone older than you at [the university], here’s your chance to meet some. You’ll also get the opportunity to meet Reform Jewish college students from across the country, who are also looking for their home at [the university.]

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. We understand what you’re going through, and we want you to become a part of our community at [the university.]

So, have a great rest of the summer and know that there is a place for you this year. Welcome to [the university]!

Sincerely,
